A shamanic approach to artistic expression is the basis of my creativity
and reflects my cultural background. This approach includes the
understanding of spiritual values, symbols, and imagery of aboriginal
cultures. For me, this translates in to a respect for the artistic
process, the materials, the subject matter and myself.
My
symbols, which frequently include representations of nature and peace
among the peoples of our world, promote a sense of harmony. Inspiration
is drawn from divergent elements in the environment. My art, through
painting and pottery, gives a voice to the various aspects of nature.
My
pottery is organized by the number of "wings" and "tips"
on each piece. The number of wings and tips vary from 2, 3, 4 or 8 tips
and/or wings dependant upon the symbology that they represent.

Water Vases

Traditionally, the
Wedding Vase is made, or commissioned, for the engaged couple.
During the wedding ceremony the vase is filled with holy water or
herbal tea. Both the future bride and groom drink from the vase,
individually and at the same time, as a symbol of their commitment and
union. If the couple drink from the vase at the same time, and
do not spill a single drop, then good understanding and a cooperative
spirit will always be part of their marriage. The vase is
treasured and protected throughout their married life as it is a
symbol of their commitment to one another.

The
seed vase is a vessel which was the traditional storage place for
seeds over winter. It served to preserve and protect them form
the natural elements and pests, thus playing an important role in
maintaining sustenance for the coming year.

Ceremonial
Black-Rimmed Pottery
Verans'
ceremonial Black Rim Pottery designs are original reflections of the rich
heritage of North American Indian culture. They are individually handled
many times and each Ceremonial Bowl bears the artist's signature and tribe
on its reverse side.
It
takes approximately 8 hours for the pottery kilns to reach their highest
temperature of 1940 - 2000 °F and another 12-14 hours for the pottery
to cool. After cooling, the pottery is glazed with LEAD-FREE clear glaze
and fired once again. This makes the pottery watertight and food-safe,
thus giving it a functional as well as an aesthetic value.

Talking
Bowl
Similar to
the talking stick, the talking bowl is used by two or more people who
wish to honestly speak and listen to one another. The bowl, which represents
the womb, can be used by those who wish to get in contact with their feminine
energy.
Symbols represent
harmony, balance and nature (ie, snow-capped mountain ranges). The purpose
behind the talking bowl, which is passed from one person to another, is
to help the holder say what is in their heart at that moment.
Mountain Wind Bells
Mountain
Wind Bells are instruments that may be used in meditation to focus one's
concentration. When rung, the wind bell will help the listener focus on
their inner self. Symbols on the wind bells may include the Kokopelli,
a symbol of fertility and music, as well as mountain and snow symbols,
to call to the mountain spirits. Mountain Wind Bells may be placed outdoors
or inside one's home.
Turtle
Dish
Native legend
says that the turtle offered her back to become the foundation for Turtle
Island (North America). The turtle dish representing Mother Earth, stability
and self-containment is a multi-purpose vessel that honours this sacred
animal.
Wedding Vase
Traditionally, the Wedding Case is made, or commissioned, for the engaged couple. During the wedding ceremony the vase is filled with holy water or herbal tea. Both the future bride and groom drink from the vase, individually and at the same time, as a symbol of their commitment and union. If the couple drink from the vase at the same time, and do not spill a single drop, then good understanding and a cooperative spirit will always be part of their marriage. The vase is treasured and protected throughout their married life as it is a symbol of their commitment to one another.
Great Bear Spirit
The Great Bear Spirit, which is associated with the West, is known for it's ability to heal, lead, and defend. In several legends the bear was the council head because of his fairness, strength, and courage. Thus, I am honoured to pay respect to the Great Bear Spirit.
Hummingbird
The hummingbird is associated with the beautiful and the sacred. It focuses your energy, allowing clarity. and has the ability to heal old wounds. The hummingbird can introduce you to other realms and is considered a sign of good luck, and so I pay respect to this sacred creature.
Pizza Plates
Keep your pizza slice warmer longer by using your own Pizza Plate. The Pizza Plate can be pre-heated and absorbs and holds the heat longer than conventional style dinner plates. You can thus enjoy your meal at a leisurely pace while keeping your food warmer longer.
